‖ Reststrahlen, n. pl. Physics.|rɛst-ˈʃtraːlən| Also as sing. Reststrahl and with small initial. [Ger., residual rays, f. rest remainder + strahlen rays.] Electromagnetic radiation which is selectively reflected from the surface of a crystalline solid when the frequency of the incident radiation is nearly equal to the frequency of vibration of the ions constituting the solid.
