1. The action of placing, or fact of being placed; placing, arrangement. Now freq. in technical or semi-technical contexts and in Sport (see quots.). In sense ‘the allocation of places to guests at a dinner table, etc.’ also with Fr. pronunc. |plasmɑ̃| and transf. (see quot. 19761).
