plerocephalic, a. Path.|plɪərəʊsɪˈfælɪk| [f. Gr. πλήρης, πληρο- full + κεϕαλή head + -ic.] Of œdema: caused by increased intracranial pressure.
1927H. M. Traquair Introd. Clin. Perimetry ix. 115 Plerocephalic œdema (œdema due to increased intracranial pressure)... As ‘Papillœdema’ and ‘choked disc’ refer to ophthalmoscopic appearances which may occur in local optic nerve disease this term has been chosen to indicate œdema of the disc due to increased intracranial pressure. 1976Proc. R. Soc. Med. LXIX. 455/2 In the following 12 cases varying degrees of optic atrophy occurred in space-occupying lesions of the brain in children because of the development of plerocephalic œdema. |
