polarite|ˈpəʊləraɪt| [f. polar a. + -ite1.] Trade name for an insoluble porous mineral substance, containing about fifty-three per cent. of magnetic oxide of iron, with silica, lime, magnesia, carbon, etc., and having the power of absorbing and giving off oxygen. Used in conjunction with ‘Ferrozone’ in the so-called ‘International’ process of sewage treatment. Also attrib.
