indophenin Chem.|-ˈfiːnɪn| [f. indo-2 + Gr. ϕαίν-ειν to show, appear + -in.] A condensation product, C12H7NOS, formed by shaking isatin with sulphuric acid and benzene that contains thiophene; obtained as a blue powder exhibiting when rubbed a coppery lustre, or in small needles.
