ˈpost-fine Law. Obs. exc. Hist. [f. post- B. 1 c + fine n.1] A duty formerly paid to the Crown for the royal licence (licentia concordandi) to levy a fine: = king's silver (b). Called the post-fine as distinguished from the pre-fine which was due on the writ.
1607Cowell Interpr., Post fine, is a duty belonging to the king for a fine formerly acknowledged before him in his court which is paid by the cognizee, after the fine is fully passed, and all things touching the same wholly accomplished. 1620Naworth Househ.
