1727–41Chambers Cycl. s.v., In architecture, &c., an ornament of sculpture is said to be postique, when it is superadded after the work itself is done. The word is formed from the Italian, posticcio, added. A table of marble, or other matter, is also said to be postique, when it is incrustated in a decoration of architecture, &c. |
