‖ prothorax Entom.|prəʊˈθɔəræks| [mod.L.: see pro-2 2 and thorax.] The first of the three thoracic somites, or divisions of the thorax of an insect, which bears the first pair of legs. Its upper surface consists of the pronotum or central ridge, and the two propleura, one on each side.
