‖ auslese|ˈaʊsleːzə| Also with capital initial. Pl. -lesen, (Anglicized) -leses. [Ger., lit. ‘choice, selection’, f. aus out + lese picking, vintage.] (Medium-)sweet wine, usu. white, made (esp. in Germany) from selected late-picked bunches of grapes (an official category of German wine); a wine of this category. Cf. beerenauslese, spätlese, trockenbeerenauslese.

Wines (ed. 3) viii. 233 Marcobrunn extends over an elevated plain between Hattenheim and Erbach, and produces also very fine wines, especially the Auslaas, which is made only in good vintages, the ripest grapes being gathered and vintaged separately. 1920G.
