rishitin, n. Biochem.|rɪˈʃiːtɪn| [f. Jap. Rishi-ri the name of a variety of potato + -t- + -in1.] A terpenoid phytoalexin and anti-fungal compound found in the tubers of some varieties of white potato.
1968K. Tomiyama et al. in Phytopathology LVIII. 115/2 The yield was 30-40mg/kg of tuber tissue. We propose to designate this compound as rishitin, because it was originally isolated from the potato variety Rishiri. 1976Nature 1 Jan. 64/1 A large quantity of rishitin has been reported on the tubers of susceptible cultivars treated with the DNA fraction from the resistant hybrid. 1982J. B. Harborne Introd. Ecol. Biochem. (ed. 2) ix. 240 Several substances, among them the sesquiterpenoid rishitin, were characterized in the potato-blight interaction originally investigated by Müller and Börger. |
