babesiosis Vet. Sci. and Path.|bəbiːzɪˈəʊsɪs| [f. mod.L. Babesia (see below), f. the name of Victor Babès (1854–1926), Romanian bacteriologist + -ia1: see -osis.] (A disease caused by) infestation with sporozoans of the genus Babesia, spread by ticks and occurring in animals and occas. man with widely varying effects. Also called piroplasmosis.
