1895W. Anderson Jap. Wood Engr. 63 Impressions are taken upon specially prepared paper by rubbing with a flat disc. (baren) worked by hand pressure. 1916F. M. Fletcher Wood-block Printing ii. 12 Pressure is then applied to the back of the paper as it lies on the wet block. This is done by a round pad called the baren by the Japanese. It is made of a coil of cord covered by bamboo sheath. 1924H. Furst Mod.
