It is an original instrument with two chromatic octaves, and plays both melody and accompaniment at the same time. 1935Vanity Fair Nov. 71/2 New effects and new instruments (the ‘goofus’) have been invented. 1952Conc. Oxf. Dict. Mus. (1960) 239/2 Goofus, an instrument introduced in the 1920's, or thereabouts.
