barracuda, -coota, -couta|bærəˈkuːdə, -ˈuːtə| Also 7 -coutha, 8 bara-. [Amer. Sp. barracuda.] A large and voracious fish (Sphyræna barracuda) of the Perch family, from six to ten feet in length, found in the seas of the West Indies. Also, a similar fish found in Australian and New Zealand waters (Thyrsites atun). In S. Afr. the same fish is called the snoek.
