sabretache|ˈsæbətɑːʃ, -æ-| Also sabretasch(e, -tash. [a. F. sabretache, ad. G. säbeltasche, f. säbel sabre, sable n.2 + tasche pocket.] A leather satchel suspended on the left side by long straps from the sword-belt of a cavalry officer. A MS. letter of 1812 has the word in the corrupt form zappadash. The Dicts. incorrectly give |ˈseɪbətɑːʃ, -æ-|.
