sacate, zacate|səˈkɑːteɪ, zə-| Also Zacate. [ad. Mexican Sp. zacate grass, hay, ad. Nahuatl çacatl, zacatl grass, reed.] Any of several grasses grown in Mexico, the southern U.S.A., and the Philippines, and used for hay or fresh forage; fodder made from such a grass. Cf. next.
