Formerly, a (member of an) American Indian people of the Snake River basin, also called the Nez Percé; also, any of several groupings of the Nez Percé and others believed to be linguistically related. Now applied to a number of closely related North American Indian peoples of the Columbia River basin.
b. The language or language grouping of any of these peoples.
B. adj. Of or pertaining to any of these peoples or their language.
