‖ Sarracenia Bot.|særəˈsiːnɪə| Also 8 sarracena, -sena. [mod.L.; orig. Sarracēna (Tournefort 1700, after Dr. D. Sarrazin of Quebec who sent him the plant).] A genus of insectivorous plants, the type of the N.O. Sarraceniaceæ, to which belong many of the plants popularly known as pitcher-plants. Hence sarraˈceniad, Lindley's name for a plant of this Order (Veg. Kingd. 1846, p. 429).
