bornite Min.|ˈbɔənaɪt| [ad. G. bornit (1845), f. the name of Ignatius von Born, an Austrian mineralogist (1742–91): see -ite1.] A brittle reddish-brown sulphide of copper and iron; also called purple copper ore or erubescite.
