▪ I. ‖ schelling Obs. exc. Hist. (ˈskɛlɪŋ, in Du. ˈsxɛlɪŋ) Also 6 shylyng, 7 skilling, schilling, 7, 8 skelling. [Du.: see shilling. Cf. schilling1, skilling.] A silver coin formerly current in the Low Countries, of the value of 6 stivers or from 5d. to 7½d. sterling.
