Strictly, Yiddish shvartser represents the masculine, and shvartse (occas. written schvartza, etc.) the feminine form, but these distinctions have become blurred. The pl. schvartzes could, in English, correspond to a sing. form schvartz, but there is no evidence for the latter.]
A Negro, a Black; spec. (with the ending -a or -e) a black maid (in the U.S.).
