F. brouet, broet (13th c. in Littré) soup made of flesh-broth, dim. of OF. breu, earlier bro (= Pr. bro, Sp. brodio, It. brodo, broda, med.L. brodium, brodum), late L. (*brodum) or Romanic (brodo), ad. OHG. brod broth. The OF. nominative brouetz, broez, gave browis.] Soup or broth of the juice of boiled meat, with various thickening ingredients.
