† ˈcalmewe Obs. Also 5 caldmaw. [Deriv. uncertain; possibly f. cald, cold + mew (Sc. maw) a gull. Cf. colmow.] Some sea-fowl; perhaps the Winter Mew, or Gull in its immature plumage.
