cantillate, v.|ˈkæntɪleɪt| [f. L. cantillāt- ppl. stem of cantillā-re ‘to sing low, to hum’ (Lewis and Short), f. cantāre to sing: see -ate3.] To chant; to recite with musical tones: spec. applied to the intoning in Jewish synagogues.
