ˈcart-whip A whip used in driving a cart, a long heavy horse-whip.
1713Lond. Gaz. No. 5144/10 Carters are to ride with long Cart Whips. 1823Canning in Ann. Reg. (1824) 129/1 Driving the slaves, by means of a cart-whip. Hence cart-whip v., to flog with a cart-whip.
