cenosite Min.|ˈsɛnəʊsaɪt| Also kainosite, cainosite. [ad. kainosit (A. E. Nordenskiöld 1886, in Geol. Föreningens Förhandl. VIII. 143), f. Gr. καινός novel, in reference to its unusual composition, + -ite1.] A hydrous silicate and carbonate of yttrium, erbium, and calcium, occurring in Norway and Sweden in the form of greasy, yellowish-brown, prismatic crystals.
