‖ ˈcestrin Obs. [F. cestrin ‘a kind of yellow stone whereof beads are made’ (Cotgr. 1611). The original of the passage in Rabelais does not speak of it as a stone, and French writers have suggested that it may have been the resin of the Socotrine aloe, med.L. aloes cicatrina.]
