Quetelet, n. (‖ ˈkɛtəleɪ) The name of Lambert Adolphe Jacques Quételet (1796–1874), Belgian statistician, used attrib. and in the possessive to designate various concepts introduced by him or arising out of his work, as Quetelet's curve Statistics(now rare), the normal probability curve; Quetelet('s) index Med. and Anthropol., the mass of an individual in kilograms divided by the square (formerly the cube) of his height in metres.
