sinistrorse, a.|ˈsɪnɪstrɔːs| [ad. L. sinistrorsus, contracted f. *sinistrōvorsus, f. sinister left + vertĕre to turn.] 1. Bot. Twining or turning spirally from right to left. The word has been used in two opposite senses, owing to a difference in the supposed position of the observer: see quot. 1870 and cf. note on dextrorse.
