coˈccosteid Palæont. A member of the family Coccosteidæ of ganoid fishes, which includes the fossil genus Coccosteus [f. Gr. κόκκο-ς grain, berry + ὀστέον bone], so called from the berry-like tubercles with which the plates were covered.
