sirex Ent.|ˈsaɪrɛks| Also Sirex. [mod.L. (Linnæus Fauna Suecica (ed. 2, 1761) 396), f. Gr. σειρήν siren, a solitary bee or wasp.] A wood-wasp or horntail of the genus Sirex, whose larvæ burrow into the trunks of trees. Also attrib.
