The name of a space laboratory launched into earth orbit by the U.S. in 1973. Freq. attrib. Occas. (with small initial) in gen. use.
The laboratory itself was more precisely designated Skylab 1; Skylabs 2, 3, and 4 were the spacecraft which successively ferried crews to it. The laboratory was manned until 1974, and disintegrated in the atmosphere in 1979.
