Solas, n.|ˈsəʊlæs| Also SOLAS. [Acronym f. the initial letters of Safety of Life at Sea.] Used attrib. to designate (any of the provisions of) an international convention governing maritime safety adopted in 1960, or that of 1974 by which it was superseded. The 1974 convention was adopted in 1980.
