[Named after D. M. S. Dane (b. 1923), English pathologist, who with others reported its discovery (Lancet (1970) 4 Apr. 695).]
A spherical particle found in the blood of patients with hepatitis B, now recognized as the capsulated form of the virus responsible for the disease.
