Name of a city (now Gdańsk) near the mouth of the Vistula and of the district containing that city, used attrib. chiefly to designate kinds of timber grown in that district, as Dantzig deal, Dantzig fir, Dantzig oak. Dantzig beer, a black syrupy beer made at Dantzig; Dantzig spruce, beer made by adding a decoction of the buds or cones of spruce.
