单词 champignon
释义

champignonchampinionn.

/tʃamˈpɪnɪən//ʃamˈpɪnɪən/
Forms: Also 1500s ? champion, 1600s shampinnion, 1600s–1700s champinion, campinion, 1700s campignion, shampinion.
Etymology: < French champignon (14th cent. in Littré) < Latin type *campiniōn-em. Old French had champigneul = Italian campignuolo < Latin type *campinolius. Both forms appear to be derivatives of campus field, open country, but their structure is not clear.
A name applied originally (as in French) to fungi, or mushrooms generally; in 18th cent. to edible mushrooms, esp. Agaricus campestris; but, subsequently, restricted to the Fairy Ring Agaric ( A. Oreades).
