Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Greek ἀγράμματος , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἀγράμματος illiterate (see agrammatist n.) + -ism suffix, after German Agrammatismus (1877 in the passage translated in quot. 1877). Compare earlier agrammatic adj., agrammatist n.
Medicine.
Loss of the ability to use correct grammar; a form of aphasia characterized by this.
