A musical composition, typically (esp. since the late 18th cent.) in three movements, for a solo instrument or instruments accompanied by an orchestra.In earlier use, and with reference to compositions from earlier times, the term may denote a much wider range of compositions, usually involving contrasting musical lines for different performers or groups of performers, including works for voices as well as instruments.
