Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French cirograffé.
Etymology: Irregularly < Anglo-Norman cirograffé (in the passage translated in quot. c1320), past participle of Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French cirograffer , cirographer , chirographer to write up formally or engross ( < cirograffe , chirographe chirograph n.), with substitution of -ed suffix1 for the ending and (apparently, and irregularly) of con- prefix for the first element.With the French verb compare also post-classical Latin chirographare, cirographare (from 12th cent. in British sources).
Obsolete. rare.
