Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin agricolātiōn-, agricolātiō.
Etymology: < classical Latin agricolātiōn-, agricolātiō agriculture < post-classical Latin agricolat- , past participial stem of agricolari to practise agriculture (although this is apparently first attested later: early 4th cent.; < classical Latin agricola agricole n.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French agricolation cultivation of the soil (1555).
rare after 18th cent.
The theory or practice of cultivating the soil; agriculture.
