Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: ailanthus n., -ery suffix.
Etymology: < ailanthus n. + -ery suffix, perhaps after French †ailanterie (although this is apparently first attested slightly later: 1867 or earlier; rare).
Now rare.
A grove or plantation of ailanthus trees, esp. one intended to provide food for silkworms.
