单词 currier
释义

curriern.1

Brit. /ˈkʌrɪə/, U.S. /ˈkəriər/
Forms: Middle English curiour, Middle English–1500s coriour, curryour, Middle English–1600s corier, Middle English coryowre, coryer, correher, coureour, curriour, Middle English–1500s coryer, coryar, coryour, 1500s corrier, curryar, courrar, currer, 1500s–1600s coriar, 1500s– currier.
Etymology: In sense 1, Middle English corier , coryer , < Old French corier, coryer < Latin coriārius , tanner, currier, < corium hide, leather. The forms in -our , as coureour , are assimilated to, or directly from, French courroyeur , in Palsgrave couraieur , Old French conreeur (13th cent.) currier, < conreer , in Cotgrave courroyer , now corroyer to curry v.1 A confusion between the two words appears already in Old French where we find coroier, couroier as variants of coriier, in which the oi is due to corroyer, corroyeur.
1. One whose trade is the dressing and colouring of leather after it is tanned. In the earlier quots. confused with tanner; but the two trades were quite distinct and legally incompatible in 1488.
