Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Datisi.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Datisi (13th cent. in a British source), formed as a mnemonic < D- (in Darii Darii n.) + A , the symbol for the universal affirmative proposition (see A n. 6) + -t- , arbitrary element, apparently for euphony + I , the symbol for the particular affirmative proposition (see I n.1 4) + s- (in simplex conversio : see simple conversion at conversion n. 4) + I (see above). Compare the discussion at mood n.2 2. Compare Darii n., Darapti n., and Disamis n.
Logic.
A valid mood (mood n.2 2a) of the third syllogistic figure, in which a universal affirmative major premise and a particular affirmative minor premise yield a particular affirmative conclusion.
