单词 decenary
释义

decenaryadj.1

Brit. /dɛˈsɛn(ə)ri/, U.S. /dɛˈsɛnəri/
Forms: 1600s 1800s– decenary, 1600s 1900s– decinary, 1700s 1900s– decennary.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin decenarius.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin decenarius containing or related to the number ten (early 5th cent. in Jerome) < decenus ten each, ten at a time, chiefly in plural deceni (6th cent.; < classical Latin decem ten (see decem- comb. form) + -ēnī , suffix forming distributive adjectives: see nonagenarian n.) + classical Latin -ārius -ary suffix1.With the form decennary compare post-classical Latin decennarius (from late 14th cent. in British sources, from 1525 or earlier in continental sources), variant (with alteration by association with classical Latin annus year: see annals n.) of decenarius . In form decinary probably influenced by decimal adj., decimate v., etc.
Relating to or involving the number ten, esp. as a base of numeration.
