Etymology: < Old French dehors, preposition, modern French dehors adverb and noun; Old French also defors, Provençal defors, Catalan defora, Spanish defuera, a late Latin or Romanic combination of de preposition + Latin forās out of doors, forth, also in sense of Latin forīs out of doors, outside, without. Compare Italian fuor, fuora, fuori.
