Primary stress is usually attracted to the first syllable of this combining form and vowels may be reduced accordingly; see e.g. monopodic adj.
Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ποδ- , πούς , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ποδ-, πούς foot (see -pod comb. form) + -ic suffix. Compare -podous comb. form, and also -pod comb. form, -pode comb. form.Combined with first elements ultimately of Greek origin. Earliest recorded in the late 17th cent. in oedipodic adj. The majority of formations are, however, from the 19th cent.
