单词 alter ego
释义

alter egon.

Brit. /ˌɔːltə(r) ˈiːɡəʊ/, /ˌɒltə(r) ˈiːɡəʊ/, /ˌaltə(r) ˈiːɡəʊ/, /ˌɔːltə(r) ˈɛɡəʊ/, /ˌɒltə(r) ˈɛɡəʊ/, /ˌaltə(r) ˈɛɡəʊ/, U.S. /ˌɔltər ˈiɡoʊ/, /ˌɑltər ˈiɡoʊ/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin alter ego.
Etymology: < classical Latin alter ego intimate friend < alter another (see alter n.) + ego I (see ego n.). Compare ancient Greek ἄλλος ἐγώ, Hellenistic Greek ἕτερος ἐγώ.Sense 1b is apparently unparalleled in post-classical Latin legal texts, and hence appears to show an extended use of sense 1a within English, as does sense 2.
