Etymology: < post-classical Latin allection-, allectio enticement, inducement (from 11th cent. in British sources; perhaps earlier, in a sermon attributed to St Ambrose) < classical Latin allect- , past participial stem of allicere (see allect v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare earlier allect v. and also allectation n.
Obsolete. rare.
Something that allures or entices, an inducement; (also) the action of alluring, enticement. Cf. allectation n.
