Chemistry.
1. A chloride containing two atoms of chlorine in its molecule or empirical formula. Cf. bichloride n., deuto-chloride at deuto- comb. form 1.In quot. 1812, introduced hypothetically in a discussion of Davy's system of nomenclature (cf. -ane suffix2 1). Otherwise sense 2 is earlier.
