单词 aluminate
释义

aluminaten.

Brit. /əˈl(j)uːmᵻneɪt/, U.S. /əˈluməˌneɪt/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; apparently modelled on a Swedish lexical item. Etymons: alumina n., -ate suffix1.
Etymology: < alumina n. + -ate suffix1, apparently after Swedish aluminiat ( J. J. Berzelius Forsök att..ett rent vettenskapligt system for mineralogien (1814) 63).Compare the following isolated example of the form aluminiate in English, in the translation of Berzelius's coinage, but compare also quot. 1814 from the same text:1814 J. Black tr. J. J. Berzelius Attempt Sci. Syst. Mineral. 87 If it hereafter can be shown to be probable that the minute portions of silica found in these are derived from foreign mixtures, then these combinations would be true aluminiates [Sw. aluminiater], in which the alumina supplies the place of the acid. With the change of the ending between Swedish and English compare pairs like antimonate n. and antimoniate n. Compare also (after Swedish) French aluminiate (1814; now aluminate), German Aluminiat (1814; now Aluminat).
Chemistry.

Hamilton tr. C.-L. Berthollet Elements Art of Dyeing I. 247 Most of the ores aluminate [Fr. peuvent s'alumer], when exposed to the air and rain..but those which contain too much bitumen, or too much sulphur, require to be roasted before they are exposed to the action of air and moisture; and this operation accelerates the formation of alum.
